Gay Vermont: Burlington is for lovers!

Vermont, as one of the few states to legalize gay marriage, is an ideal spot for a destination wedding or a romantic honeymoon. If the word Vermont makes you think of green rolling hills, patchwork farmland and quaint New England towns, you aren't far off. But Burlington is a modern metropolis--with a population of gay couples that is far above the national average.

In Burlington you'll find all kinds: hippies, old Yankees, athletes, farmers, artists and academics from the local university. Although it retains plenty of New England traditions, Burlington is also urbane and modern. It isn't a party town, though, and there are no actual gay clubs. But most everywhere in town is gay-friendly and there is an active community that hosts tons of queer events.

If you are the outdoorsy type, you'll love kayaking on Lake Champlain or hiking in the Green Mountains. Nearby, you'll find lovely forest getaways and skiing at fabulous mountaintop towns like Stowe, home of Vermont Ski Week. And all of these places double as spectacular natural backdrops for romantic honeymoons and weddings.
